I have never really liked this movie. On recent viewing, I can see why. The entire production is revolting. It starts with the fact that this is a big budgeted movie based on a best selling book, “Relic”. Don’t expect to watch this and think it reliably follows the novel. There have been many editorial liberties taken. (So what else is new, you ask?) This movie is awash in guts and gore being spewed in all directions. There are generous helpings of entrail ripping, blood splatterings and heads being severed. Ugh. I don’t think I found one likeable character in the entire story. Maybe

It is the week of the Fourth of July. Why not round out the week by enjoying some glorious, cinematic firepower brought to you by “Predator” (1987). This is a favorite scene of mine from this alien on the loose science fiction classic. Nice gun play and explosions at the expense of the jungle. The rainforest was never the same after this.
My favorite song from Porcupine Tree, a rock outfit led by Steve Wilson. A sad, harrowing tale of a boy who grew up with “wiring loose inside (his) head” and who matures into, probably, a full blown serial killer candidate. Pretty unpleasant as you listen to the lyrics reflecting the main character’s reasoning that his acts are merely displays of love or romance toward his intended victims. He seems to know something is terribly wrong with him but it is probably too late to do anything about it. Haunting stuff. Crunching, power chords alternate with more gently strummed guitar passages. I started watching this from about the half way point and got hooked. This is your basic kids stranded in a lonely cabin with no way to get past or rid of the nasty, howling bigfoot creature which wants to avenge itself on them. Fairly effective “found footage” approach is used throughout. One of the humans in peril is video recording the whole adventure. The scene with the guy on the mountain bike and the GoPro trying to find a cell phone signal and, then, trying to outpace a hotly pursuing sasquatch is pretty nerve wracking. Exists brings to mind

I always liked this song by Black Sabbath but being performed here by the essentially the same band with a new moniker, “Heaven and Hell” to avoid infringement with Ozzy over the BS name. Tony Iommi’s finger picked guitar alternates with a sledge hammer guitar riff. Very sinewy, melodic bass work by Geezer Butler, too. And, of course, Iron Lungs Ronnie James Dio, in a performance shortly before his death. Epic.
A disquieting tale of the destruction of a remote research station by unknown forces. The culprits are right under our noses but we don’t find out until the very end of the movie. Dread and paranoia in abundance as Robert Culp and Eli Wallach attempt to put a halt to the rapid erosion of the human community at a snowbound scientific research center. Will they find a solution in time? Similar surroundings and situation to “The Thing” but without an other worldly threat. An ABC Movie of the Week entry.
Sickening 1960’s precursor to the “Saws” and “Hostels” of today’s sadomasochistic cinema. An invalid gets trapped in her elevator after an electrical mishap shuts off the power in her house. It’s not long after this that a collection of cruds break in to her place and indulge in unpleasant behavior. A wino, a floozy, and a trio of psychotic hipsters make the place their own and spread the mayhem. James Caan in an early, evil role. Shot in very bland, claustrophobic black and white. You’ll feel damaged by the time this thing is done.
Found another lovely article. This one is about blood sucking nasties lurking in our lakes, seas and oceans. The victim of this attack was able to secure samples of these parasites. Our authorities haven’t figured out what the things are yet but I’m sure their findings will be most interesting. See the article below: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/australian-teens-feet-bloodied-by-mystery-sea-creatures/ar-AApASFb?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp To further get into the skin crawling mode, check out this glorious trailer for the whacked out science fiction/horror hybrid, “The Flesh Eaters” from 1964. You will notice certain similarities….
An interesting article surfaced recently. Artificial Intelligence robots being tested by Facebook seemingly began communicating in a language that was indecipherable to the “experts”. Shocking!!! First off – are there any true experts on any subject, particularly concerning the medical profession, science, technology? The minute any absolutes or concrete data is laid out to demonstrate our understanding of how the body, nature or the Universe works, it can be retracted with a new theory or explanation to replace the old one. Oh, really? Why don’t the experts just admit that they are guessing and don’t actually really know shit? Wow.

The Americans’ air defense system blows a gasket and a group of six bomb carrying jets is instructed to drop their payloads on Moscow. It is all a computer mistake but one that the US cannot put a stop to. The President’s solution to appease the Russians is far fetched and more than a bit absurd. Suspenseful and tense though the majority of the film making may be, I can’t buy the ending.
This immortal classic has been making the cable TV rounds this holiday season and “Alien”, for me, still holds up as my favorite science fiction/horror film EVER! I have always been partial to the first part of the film where the crew find out about the strange “distress” signal they are sent to investigate, up until Kane (John Hurt) is brought back to the ship from the surface of the planetoid with a “guest” attached to his face. There is nice cast interaction and an effective depiction of a trek across a rather hostile planet. The rollercoaster ride of horror aboard ship which

Enjoyable fantasy flick about an amusement park for adults where life like robots make up the populace and, if you’re lucky, you might even be able to sleep with or kill one of them! Vegas has got nothing on this place! But, it isn’t a perfect world, even in Westworld. Computers there, as in our present society, seem to have mind’s of their own. The robots begin to act on impulse, out of control of their creators, and all Hell breaks loose. A good rainy day flick to curl up with for 90 minutes. Nice electronic soundtrack, too!
With a lot of attention being placed on the upcoming theatrical release of “Jurassic World”, it might interest you to take a look at this lovely little lost world ditty. A plan crashes on an isolated island that is rife with primordial life forms. But the really beautiful beastie present is the “King” of this place. Look familiar? A man in a terrible ape suit runs wild at times through this thing. This movie is a great diversion. Seek it out and have a few cheap thrills!
Creepy compendium of weird shit caught on video. We’ve got UFO’s, Bigfeet, ghostly mirages of floating cities. I mean, what else do you need to keep you entertained for a few minutes? Crack open a few cold ones and enjoy.
