Punk rock progenitor, Chris Bailey, who sang and wrote for the Australian band, The Saints, has died. Chris definitely had a strong presence in my life way back when. We had a couple of Saints’ audio cassettes in the rotation for road trips: “I’m Stranded” and “Know Your Product”. The songs were some of our favorites, right alongside “Metallic KO”, The Stranglers, Motorhead, etc. Good music, good times. The Saints’ raw, guitar dominated sound was an influence on the punk purge to come in the music industry. Check out this music video which is introduced by artist commentary. Cool video!
Dave Greenfield played the keyboards with the British punk band The Stranglers. He passed away over the weekend, Dave had to be admitted to hospital for a heart ailment but ended up contacting the corona virus and passed away. Ugh. What a shame. An amazing player and talented writer and performer. Farewell, Dave.
Very sweet documentary covering people who shape sound in any manner or way they see fit.  Call these noise practitioners, the new Punks.  Some of those shown performing describe what they do as a new form of punk rock, a DIY mindset of artist creation, made with whatever musical instrument, effect pedal, electronic device or mechanical apparatus is at hand. Whatever label you put on these sounds, the end result is a collection of unique individuals who are producing, performing, and espousing noise.  It is all very liberating and refreshing.  Granted the documentary is seven years old by this date [More]
Another dittie – a love song.  From The Damned.  Singer Dave Vanian once upon a time favored a vampiric look.  And guitarist Sensible wore feathers.  Nice bit where they cavort around onstage with Sensible clinging to the broken neck guitar.
